Secondary Inset Day

The inset day on engagement for Pupil Premium (PP) students featured a keynote speech by Jim Roberson, an expert in educational strategies aimed at improving outcomes for disadvantaged students. Roberson's presentation focused on the importance of fostering a strong rapport between teachers and students, as well as strategies for increasing engagement through personalised approaches. Jim emphasised the role of high expectations, motivation, and creating an inclusive classroom environment where PP students feel valued and encouraged to succeed.

Following the keynote, workshops were held to delve deeper into practical engagement techniques. These sessions provided staff with tools and strategies to better connect with students, including approaches to boost self-esteem, involve students in active learning, and use feedback effectively. Teachers discussed how to identify and address barriers to engagement, and how deliberate strategies can be used to support student's individual needs.
