Primary INSET- Fluent and Avid Readers
It was wonderful to see all primary school staff engaging in our INSET, hosted across four different school sites. The day aimed to support both school and trust wide priorities. Workshops included:
- Hearts for Learning Education - Reading Fluency Project. The trust has adopted a ‘train the trainer’ approach to ensure this programme is accessible to all schools who would like to access in the future. https://www.hfleducation.org/
- Pathway to Reading – This session shared effective reading pedagogy for teaching reading to children with complex needs, including the learners within our Resource Bases.
- Early Language Development (in partnership with the Ramsbury English Hub). This was the first session of a sustained research based CPD programme aimed at Early Years leadership to support schools to implement a strategy to help all children including those with speaking and understanding difficulties.
- Building a Thriving Reading Culture. This session maintained a focus on inspiring children to become fluent readers who find joy in reading for pleasure. The workshop was designed to equip and empower teachers and TAs with practical, effective strategies for the teaching of reading.
- Securing KS2 Progress to Outcomes. Reading in Yr 6 requires a skilled approach to building on the foundational knowledge pupils have developed throughout primary school. The session focused on ensuring reading becomes a smooth, expressive process enabling children to tackle more challenging texts and themes - setting the stage for successful transition to secondary school.
Additionally staff from school offices worked together to prepare for the Arbor migration from their current MIS package and Emergency First Aid at Work Training took place for identified colleagues who will follow up with a Paediatric top up.
It was wonderful to see the collaboration and learning taking place, as well as listening to the positive nature of discussions. We particularly valued the strong sense of purpose shared by leaders, teachers and TAs.
With huge thanks to all the facilitators who shared their expertise and passion to ensure every child in our trust has every chance to become a fluent and avid reader.
